Moving

Your old mail comes along, folder by folder.

EMX copies every mailbox from your current provider over IMAP, with folders, dates and flags, nothing twice. The old account keeps its mail until you cancel it.

How the move works

  1. Organisation and domain

Create the organisation and add the domain. Nothing changes for incoming mail yet.

  2. Add people

Each person gets a mailbox with the same address as before; shared mailboxes for info@ and the like.

  3. Copy the mail

Each person starts the move under Settings, Import and export, with the old provider's server and app password. It runs in the background and resumes after an interruption.

  4. Switch the MX

Publish the DNS records EMX shows. From then on new mail arrives at EMX.

  5. Copy a second time

The move fetches only what arrived since the first run. Then you can cancel the old provider.

Common providers

Most need an app password of their own for IMAP, not the account password.

Gmail and Google Workspaceimap.gmail.com, port 993, app password from the Google account
Microsoft 365 and Outlook.comoutlook.office365.com, port 993. Microsoft often allows IMAP only with an OAuth sign-in, which the move cannot do yet; write to us and we bring the mail across with you
Infomaniakmail.infomaniak.com, port 993
Hostpointimap.mail.hostpoint.ch, port 993
Other hostingthe IMAP server your provider names, usually port 993
